How to get from Recife to Porto de Galinhas

Porto de Galinhas is located on the southern coast of Pernambuco and the easiest way to get there is from the city of Recife, which is approximately 60 km away. Recife’s International Airport (Gilberto Freyre Airport – REC) is only 50 km away and serves as a gateway for visitors from all over the world.

Renting a car

There are several transportation options for those who arrive to Recife. It is possible to rent a car at the airport. We advise the rental only for those who want to travel around the region or for those who are staying away from the center, otherwise it’s not necessary as Porto de Galinhas is the perfect place to forget about the wheel and put the feet in the sand.

If you are not renting a car, there are options of transfers, taxi and bus, as we will see next.

Porto de Galinhas by bus

Those who choose to go by bus from Recife to Porto de Galinhas will find constant timetable options. The company that mainly performs this service is Cruzeiro, which has two lines that lead to the town of Porto.

These are the “195” and “191”. If you can choose, we personally recommend the 195, which is a bit more expensive but has fewer stops and usually has air conditioning.

+ FROM RECIFE (BOA VIAGEM) ​

Those who want to take the bus inside the city of Recife can consult through the itinerary which is the most accessible point. The lines have a distant path and the line 195 pass through Boa Viagem (Av. Herculano Bandeira).

+ FROM RECIFE (CAIS DE SANTA RITA)

For those who are in the center of Recife, as well as those who leave the airport, it is very easy to catch the buses. Both depart from the Cais de Santa Rita Terminal and pass the airport on the way. 

+ FROM THE AIRPORT​

The buses coming from Boa Viagem or from Cais de Santa Rita stop at the airport. So if you are coming by plane or even by bus from other city from the main station (Rodoviaria) the best option is to take it from there. 

 There is a bus stop which is located in front of the arrivals terminal. Leaving the terminal just across the street you will easily locate a sign that says “Porto de Galinhas”, and a row of benches to wait comfortably for the bus.

+ BUS TIMETABLE​

You can take any bus from lines 191 and 195, which have different prices and schedules. 

This timetable is from “Cais de Santa Rita” If you are in the airport you need to calculate 15/30 minutes after (depending on the traffic).

IN WHICH BUS STOP SHOULD I GET OFF IN PORTO DE GALINHAS?

As there is no bus terminal in Porto de Galinhas, the main stop is in the end of the route, which is in front of the gas station. From there it is possible to go walking to the most central Pousadas, or to take a taxi if your destination is a little further away.

HOW TO GET TO

PORTO DE GALINHAS BY CAR

Currently the shortest (and fastest) route to Porto de Galinhas is through the “Atlantico road”. Those who opt for this route will have to go through a toll, but on the other hand will be free of the strong traffic of the road of Cabo de Santo Agostinho and Ipojuca (PE-060). If there are no setbacks, the path can be accomplished in approximately 50 minutes. See the summary of both routes:

• By the Atlantic Route (with toll) – Take the BR-101 (South Coast direction) to Cabo de Santo Agostinho. Then enter the Atlantic Route, and then the PE-038 that will take you to Nossa Senhora do Ó. At last, take the PE-009 until the end and you will arrive in Porto de Galinhas.

• By the PE-060 (without toll) – Take the BR-101 (South Coast direction) to Cabo de Santo Agostinho. Then enter the PE-060 until Ipojuca, and then the PE-038 that will take you to Nossa Senhora do Ó. At last, take the PE-009 until the end and you will arrive in Porto de Galinhas.
